New Delhi: The Government of India has decided to lift the ban on VLC media player after it was banned in the country for almost nine months. The Indian government had banned the free and popular VLC media in India. The Internet Freedom Foundation took to Twitter to inform about the Indian government’s decision to lift the ban on VLC media player’s website. VideoLAN confirmed the news on its official Twitter handle and said that the Internet Freedom Foundation is doing a great job.

Why Indian government banned VLC in India?
The Government of India has not clarified the reason for this ban. However, some reports suggest that the government had banned the app as it was being used by China-backed hacking group ‘Cicada’ for cyber attacks in India.

However, VLC media player developer, VideoLAN, denied reports at the time, stating that Cicada hackers used a modified version of VLC media player for this purpose and not the official Microsoft, Google and Apple stores. version available at .
