Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah admitted that he was “not good enough” after his sixth consecutive loss in a bad IPL campaign. On Saturday, they were built on a scintillating century from KL Rahul as he steered Lucknow Super Giants to an 18-run victory to push the five-time champions closer to league-stage elimination.
“We’ve been in a fight. Too many games here or there with little luck. But that’s it. We’re not going to shy away from the fact that we weren’t good enough and the tables weren’t lying. The rest of us Playing in parts, we will try to give our best shot and get into the better side,” Bumrah said in the post-match press conference.
Bumrah said the team is still trying to stay positive as they have “not lost everything in life”.
“Life isn’t over, the sun will rise again tomorrow. It’s a game of cricket, isn’t it? One has to win or lose. We haven’t lost everything in life, haven’t we just lost a cricket game. That’s the feeling. Who is on our team.
“No one is as disappointed as us. No one can see the hard work we have put in,” Bumrah said.
Against LSG, nothing went right for MI after opting to bowl first. Captain Rohit Sharma used six bowlers in the powerplay and apart from taking the wicket of Quinton de Kock, none of the bowlers seemed to cause any trouble.
Poor fielding, his worst fielding in a long time, made it worse for MI.
“Obviously it’s disappointing. Nobody wants to give up and we’re no different. But it’s the same. We’re just accepting it and taking it on the chin that ‘Well, we weren’t good enough’ are and have been continuously reduced’.
