New Delhi: Cyberabad police in Telangana have busted a massive data theft network which is believed to have data of over 66.9 crore people and firms. In this case, the police had arrested a person. The data is expected to be divided into 104 categories and pertain to people from over 24 states and 8 metropolitan cities. The accused has been identified as Vinay Bhardwaj. He was hiding his data theft under his website “InspireWebz” and was based in Faridabad, Haryana. He sold the dataset to customers through Cloud Drive Lynx.

“The accused has been found to be having data from various sources, which include Byju’s, Vedantu, Cab users, GST, RTO, Amazon, Netflix, Paytm, PhonePe etc. The accused has accessed the data through a website named ‘InspireWeb’ located in Faridabad, Haryana. , and was selling databases to customers,” tweeted the Cyberabad police.

“The accused had 135 categories of data containing sensitive information of government, private organizations and individuals and the police seized two mobile phones, two laptops and the data during the arrest.”

The accused illegally stole personal and sensitive data and then sold it in the market. The criminal has data of students from ed-tech firm BYJU’s and Vedantu. The accused also had customer data of major organizations like GST (Pan India), RTO (Pan India), Amazon, Netflix, Paytm, Instagram, Zomato, Policy Bazaar etc.
