The video, posted on January 2, has been viewed over one million times on Twitter. Echoing a similar sentiment, one user wrote, “Yeah it’s bad. I easily spent $200 that used to be $80. Everything’s going up.”
Another user wrote, “My husband and I keep a very strict record of our spending and we are spending 40% more on groceries every month since March 2022. They are absolutely lying about the inflation rate! “
A third user wrote, “Government assures you that inflation is between 8-10%. I can tell you that food almost doubled (100%) from last year and reports from farmers and food producers say that 2023 is going to be similar.” Even worse because not all price increases have been seen yet.”
A fourth user joked, “Time to adjust your palette and start eating squirrels.”
Wall Street stocks on Friday saw their worst year since 2008, following a “terrible” period fueled by aggressive moves to rein in inflation and costs, according to AFP. Markets declined amid sluggish global growth from monetary policy tightening, prolonged COVID-19 restrictions in China and energy supply shocks following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
It was its fourth worst performance since World War II, said Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CFRA Research.
