Meta-owned photo sharing platform Instagram is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to buy things through direct messages. The new payments feature will allow users to make purchases from small businesses via direct messages, Meta announced Monday.
According to a blog post shared by the company, users will never have to leave the app, or even chat, to make purchases. instagram, Currently, users have to exit the post, send a message to a business inquiring about a product to purchase, then visit the link they provide to make a purchase. With the new feature, users will be able to chat about customizations directly and place orders from there.

This comes after Instagram announced its new features aimed at creators. These features come as part of Instagram’s efforts to make it “the best online place for creators to make a living.” The company has introduced Subscriber Chat, Subscriber Reel, Subscriber Post and Subscriber Home. Under this tab, users will be able to filter only those posts which are available to them.

Instagram also suffered an outage last week. Nearly 24,000 Instagram users were affected by the outage early Friday. The outage tracker DownDetector on Friday showed a spike in outage reports in India between 1AM and 3AM. This came on a day when micro-blogging platform Twitter suffered a nearly three-hour-long outage, affecting over 50,000 users.
