JODHPUR: Security and intelligence agencies suspect the role of banned outfits like SIMI and Indian Mujahideen in the recent communal violence on the eve of Eid.
The agencies also suspect the role of the Popular Front of India (PFI), which is believed to have replaced SIMI and has been named by national intelligence agencies behind several communal troubles across the country.
Jodhpur Police Commissioner Navjyoti Gogoi confirmed that this angle was part of their investigation
Sources said that around 200 people arrested for disturbing peace in the city have been released on bail. Others, who were arrested for inciting violence and who are in police custody, are being questioned continuously to ascertain their motives and background.
DCP (West) Vandita Rana said possible links of these persons with other organizations or indulging in objectionable activities have also been made a part of the investigation.
To the police’s surprise, the situation prevailed at night despite the sudden violence in the morning and other sporadic encounters in the afternoon in different parts of the Walled City.
However, the police claimed that no such link has been found in the investigation so far, but the possibility cannot be ruled out.
It may be noted that Delhi Police and ATS-Rajasthan busted an IM module in March 2014 in which 10 people were arrested, seven of whom were Mohd. Saqib Ansari (23), Barkat Ali (28), Adil Ansari (23), Ashraf Ali (40), Mashraf Iqbal (32), Mohd. Javed (28) and Zaheer Haque (30) were residents of Jodhpur.
Three other Mr. Maroof (23), Mohammad Waqar Azhar alias Hanif alias Mohsin (21) and Mohd. Ammar Yasar (22) was also arrested, who hailed from Jaipur, Pali and Dhanbad respectively.
The agencies also suspect the role of the Popular Front of India (PFI), which is believed to have replaced SIMI and has been named by national intelligence agencies behind several communal troubles across the country.
