IPL 2021, MI vs RR – Blame is more with us, not toss or pitch: Kumar Sangakkara

Rajasthan Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara blamed his team for the massive defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians. IPL Here, saying that the mistake did not come from the toss or the pitch.

Jimmy Neesham and Nathan Coulter-Neil Mumbai Indians bowled exceptionally well to keep their chances alive as they thrashed Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets in a low-scoring match on Tuesday night.

Asked if the toss was a big factor, Sangakkara said, “Well, you can probably say that, we haven’t played here in Sharjah before and watching other games, it feels a little better at night and Maybe there was a little bit more speed.”

“But once you have only 90 on the wicket (for defense), it was really tough unless you had this amazing power-play with wickets and very few runs.

“The important part for us was, we were 42/1 after the power-play and the plan was to extend it from the 13th/14th over, with at least seven wickets, so that we could really target a bowler or two. And build a platform after the 15th over.”

He added, “Unfortunately, we didn’t adapt, Mumbai bowled very well and we lost a lot of wickets, so we could never attack at any level. So maybe, the mistake is more than just the pitch or the toss. is with us.”

Coming into bat, Rajasthan could only manage 90 for nine, which Mumbai achieved in just 8.2 overs, with young Ishan Kishan scoring an unbeaten 50.

Sharjah’s pitches have not created a run-feast and this season has been challenging for the batsmen.

When asked about Sharjah’s pitch, he said, “These kinds of pitches are challenging and it’s a matter of adapting and being smart at it.” We talked about Sharjah’s wickets in the lead up to the game, what the bowlers have to do. What are the batsmen to do?

According to the former Sri Lanka captain, the pitches offered in Sharjah test the skill, flexibility and mindset of the players.

“But on pitches like these, it really tests not only your skills, but also your flexibility and your mindset, so playing on pitches like these at times isn’t a bad idea, it’s the best in terms of a lot. Not a big T20 pitch, but it is a challenging pitch in terms of coming up with it and then playing on it.

“So it is an experience, so we will have to wait and see how they perform for the (T20) World Cup,” he added.

Asked if she was surprised at how Mumbai approached the run-chase, Sangakkara said, “No, we would have done the same thing. Power play was the easiest time to bat, so we might be in the same mindset.” Try to approach him with him or score as many runs as possible.”

He quipped, “We probably didn’t bowl as well as we should have, but also when you’re chasing a low score, once you power-play, everything else It gets easier.”

Mumbai Indians pacer Coulter-Nile, who returned with match-winning figures of 4/14, praised Kishan, who walked away after a poor score in the end.

“I think it’s good to have someone between the runs, it’s really cool, Ish (Ishaan) coming after missing a few games to do really well on such a tough wicket, just sitting on the bench Shows the quality of people, they can come and perform for us.

“So happy to see him (Kishan) score runs, he’s dodging everyone in pre-season,” Coulter-Nile said.

The Australian pacer also said that everyone in the team needs to bowl well for a particular bowler to be successful.

“We all have to bowl well for someone to be successful. We have bowlies (Trent BoultGood bowling, (Jasprit) Bumrah bowled well, we saw Neesh (Jimmy Neesham) bowling well today. Whoever comes is responsible for maintaining that pressure.

“I was lucky that the pressure was applied when I came in. That was the point where it got a lot. So today I got wickets, it could be the next game any time.

“As long as we keep bowling as a unit, we’ll see a lot of success. We’ve been pretty good the whole time. Even when (Adam) Milne was playing, he bowled beautifully. I think We’ve been really good and hope we can keep it going,” he signed off.
