The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced that cricket fans will be allowed in cricket stadiums for the first match between last season’s winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR).
Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will resume with Chennai Super Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium.
“The match will be a momentous occasion as the 15th edition of the IPL will welcome fans to the stadium after a brief hiatus due to the pandemic. The matches will be played at stadiums in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune, with the viewership being 25% as per the COVID-19 protocol. In all, there will be 20 matches each at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, 15 matches each at Brabourne and MCA International Stadium, Pune.
With the addition of two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans – the IPL will have 74 matches this season, 70 of which will be played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium as well as Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Ground and MCA International Stadium. Will go in Pune.
IPL has returned to India after almost a year. In 2021, the league was played behind closed doors at some venues in India, but was suspended midway after several COVID-19 cases surfaced in its bio-bubble in May. The remaining matches were played in the UAE in September-October.
