In 10 matches this season, Jadeja has scored just 116 runs in 10 matches at an average of 19.33.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming is not overly concerned about Ravindra Jadeja’s form but said going forward the team will evaluate which position in the batting order is best suited for the star all-rounder.
In 10 matches this season, Jadeja has scored just 116 runs in 10 matches at an average of 19.33, while taking five wickets at an economy rate of 7.52.
On 4 May, Jadeja was dismissed for three as CSK lost by 13 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore, their seventh loss overall.
Fleming said during a virtual press conference, “No, I’m not worried. T20 matches can be tough and when you’re batting at number five or number six, you don’t get much time to get your pace.” “
“We will look into it now and decide what will be the best sequence going forward. But no, I am not worried about his form. Jadeja, who has been out of form, handed back the captaincy to Mahendra Singh Dhoni last week to focus on his game.
With just six points from 10 matches, CSK are almost out of the tournament and Fleming admitted that they are “closed in all departments.”
“At times our fielding, the catches we dropped is a matter of concern. We are not far away, in many matches you can say we were really close to winning them.
“We took away the game or we weren’t good enough to cross the line. But it’s usually a story of competition if you’re just in. All three departments are on par,” he said.
“We lost some bowlers as well, you have to admit it, but yes, we are out now.” Injuries to key players have also affected CSK, with Deepak Chahar being the most prominent member to miss the entire season due to a back injury he sustained while recovering from a quadricep tear.
Moeen Ali also missed a few games after suffering an ankle injury during a training session.
“We had a few players in our plans that we lost early, so we looked to bring in young players a little ahead of their time. Mukesh Choudhary has developed well, Simranjeet is getting a chance here.” Fleming said.
“But we’ve just been off our balance and competition, that could be the difference. We have some really good spin options.”
Most important win of the tournament: Hazlewood
RCB pacer Josh Hazlewood described their 13-run win over CSK as the most important win for the team in the tournament so far as it kept them in the race for the play-offs.
The win broke RCB’s three-match losing streak and helped them move to the fourth position in the points table.
“It’s probably the most important win of the tournament so far. We’re at the point where we have to win all the games to make it to the play-offs, that’s what I think, and today was the first step in doing that,” he said .
“We have been flat in the last three games, we have things to work on honestly on bowling, batting and fielding. We put it together and created our chances, so this is the most important win ever.”
Regarding his T20 form, Hazlewood said: “It’s mostly been playing T20 cricket continuously for the last three years and learning things in different situations against different players.
“Talking to a lot of voices in this camp, a lot of experience which is easy, it accelerates the learning process for me who has just played 60-70 T20 games.”
