MUMBAI: Kolkata Knight Riders mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty is not worried about a slow start to the IPL this season and is relying on new changes to become a better bowler.
The 30-year-old leg-spinner was the highest wicket-taker for this KKR Last season he took 18 wickets in 17 matches and this season he has got only four wickets in five matches.
“It’s bound to happen, people will have plans against me. Last year in the Indian leg, I took six to seven wickets in seven matches. Later, I took more wickets, so you can’t guess how many wickets you’re taking to get,” Chakraborty said.
Before the match against KKR he said, “I am working on a new variation which I want to bowl more and if it starts clicking well then it will definitely be a new addition to my game.” Will add dimension.” Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.
When asked about the new change, he said, “I am working on leg spin. I have been working on this for the last two years. I have bowled in a few matches and I got a wicket from that.
I need to have a little more confidence (bowling with the new variation) and start bowling it more.
Injured Chakraborty returned to competitive cricket in the IPL after taking part in the T20 World Cup last year when he failed to pick up a wicket before being sidelined due to a calf injury.
“I was at the NCA for my injury treatment. Now it has resolved very well. I could go on the field without any pain relievers. So, I am feeling fit and it has helped me bowl much better. I have helped.”
When asked what kind of adjustments he makes on the wickets which are in favor of the batsmen, he said, “Stick to your basic plan, stick to your strengths instead of focusing on the batsmen. So, the mental set- To change up.”
He considers Afghanistan a star and a player of Gujarat Titans Rashid Khan As the best spinner currently in world cricket.
“In cricket, you are bound to get hit. The best spinner right now is Rashid (Khan) and even he has gone for runs (in a few matches) but he is still the best.
“It happens in a few matches, you’re going to have a bad day and you just need to come back.”
He also said that he shares a special bond with his fellow spinners in the KKR team, Sunil Narine of West Indies.
“Sunil is like a big brother to me. If I go through skinny he will come up to me and talk to me. He has also shared private things with me which makes him insecure.
“It’s great for such a great guy to talk to me about things like this, to tell me he’s weak and that he goes through the lean and tough times too. So, talking to him It gives you confidence and builds confidence.”
He also said that the current competition among Indian leg-spinners does not put any pressure on him as far as his place in the national team is concerned.
“I see it as healthy competition. I messaged Yuzik Also the way he bowled, he is in amazing form right now, Ravi Bishnoi is bowling brilliantly, Kuldeep is doing great for his team, Rahul Chahar is fantastic. I love it when a leg spinner does well.”
