IPL 2023: Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s pathetic spell restricted DC to 144 for 9 in the first innings in Hyderabad

by India Today Sports DeskSunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, bowling poorly, restricted Delhi Capitals to a score of 144 for nine in the first innings. Bhuvneshwar took two wickets and conceded just 11 runs in the first innings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Bhuvneshwar began his spell in spectacular fashion by dismissing DC opener Phil Salt on the third ball of the first over for a golden duck. Bhuvneshwar bowled a good length delivery at 132 kmph which was squared by Salt to wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen.

After conceding just one run in the first over, Bhuvneshwar top-scored for just one run in the third as DC skipper David Warner struggled to counter-attack the Indian pacer.

After getting SRH off to a flying start, Bhuvneshwar was brought back into the attack by skipper Aiden Markram in the 18th over. The former SRH skipper once again produced the goods, breaking a brilliant 69-run partnership between Axar Patel and Manish Pandey. Bhuvneshwar bowled a brilliant yorker to Axar, who got out after scoring 34 runs in as many balls.

Once again, Bhuvneshwar was clinical with his bowling, conceding only four runs and also picked up the crucial wicket of Akshar. Bhuvneshwar was handed the ball for the final over and he got down to business, opening with a dot ball against Ripple Patel. In the very next delivery, the pressure was off as Patel and Anrich Nortje were involved in a mix-up, which led to the South African’s run out.

After bowling another dot ball, this time to Kuldeep Yadav, Patel was involved in another poor run, losing his wicket this time through a run out at the hands of Klaasen. He ended the match with figures of 2 for 11 as DC managed to set a target of 145 for the hosts.
