In the 43rd match of Tata IPL 2023, playing against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the home team by 18 runs.
Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore could only manage 126 runs losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.
After winning the toss, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis decided to bat first.
RCB innings:
Opening batsman Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis gave RCB a solid start knowing the possibility of rain in Lucknow.
Kohli scored 31 runs in 30 balls before being dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi in the 9th over. After this, other RCB batsmen were seen struggling and wickets fell one after the other. However, Plessis (44) kept calm and was scoring runs from one end.
But then, the batsmen could only manage 93 runs in 15.2 overs as rain stopped play.
Then when the match resumed at 9:15 pm, the reliable Dinesh Karthik entered the field and tried to build a partnership with Plessis, who was dismissed by Amit Mishra in the 17th over.
But Karthik also could not stand on the pitch and was run out by Yash Thakur in the 19th over. Later wickets started falling like a house of cards. And by the end of 20 overs, RCB could only score 126 runs losing 9 wickets.
Naveen-ul-Haq took three wickets for LSG, Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra took 2 wickets each, while Krishnappa Gautam took one wicket.
LSG Innings:
Despite chasing a comparatively low target, the LSG batting line-up faltered from the start.
Opener Kyle Mayers (0), Ayush Badoni (4), Krunal Pandya (14) and Deepak Hooda (1) went to the pavilion in the powerplay itself.
Although Marcus Stoinis (13) tried to stabilize the LSG innings, he too was benched by Karn Sharma in the 11th over.
After this Krishnappa Gautam (23) was run out by Sonu Yadav in the 12th over. He was the only player to cross the 20-run mark.
By the end of 19.5 overs, LSG lost all their wickets and could manage only 108 runs.
Karn Sharma and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets each for RCB, while Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva took one wicket each.
In the current IPL points table, LSG are at the second spot with 10 points while RCB are at the sixth spot with 8 points. LSG won 5 of their 8 matches played, while RCB won 4 out of 8 matches.
