South Indian film superstar Ram Charan is basking in the success of his Oscar-winning film RRR. The Magadheera star is popular in the industry for venturing into other fields beyond his successful career in acting. With a keen eye on business prospects, the actor has made some strategic investments in various sectors. According to reports, he is looking to make a foray into cricket and aims to buy a franchise in the Indian Premier League.
Reportedly, it was learned that Ram Charan has decided to start a new team in IPL called Vizag Warriors which will represent Andhra Pradesh. Vizag Warriors can be a source of pride for the people of Andhra Pradesh as well as add excitement to the IPL. Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad is the only team in IPL from Telugu states and is owned by Kavya Maran.
If Ram Charan becomes the owner of an IPL team, he will join the ranks of successful franchise owners like Nita Ambani, Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta who have made huge profits from IPL sponsorship and other revenue streams.
However, there is little chance of any other team in the cricket league, as two new ones were added last year and the total number of teams reached to ten. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are two new teams owned by successful businessmen of the country. Gujarat Titans, who won the league title in its inaugural year, is owned by CVC Capitals, while the Lucknow team is owned by Sanjiv Goenka.
There were reports that Ram Charan might buy a team in the Andhra Premier League, which started two years ago, if not in the IPL. After two successful seasons, the league has been formed to promote young talents in the state.
Apart from cricket, the actor has also bought a team in polo.
He is currently shooting for his upcoming film ‘Game Changer’. The film is directed by S Shankar and stars Kiara Advani in the lead role.
