Is there water everywhere…

One should do duty first, then ask for. If you want dry house and drainage, first ask yourself what have you done for the government?

Dear Pain Akka,

It has been a miserable week, everything got wet and washed out with Diwali and now it is raining incessantly in Chennai. Water has entered the ground floor of my house in Anna Nagar and we have moved ourselves and a lot of our valuables to the first floor. We also moved our gas stove and food items around so that we could cook and stay there until the rain stopped. I can’t understand why it should be like this. After 2015, why couldn’t our government do anything about drainage and the threat of floods? We are well on our way to becoming a trilling dollar economy, but we still haven’t been able to deal with the flood. Please give your smart solution.

dear wet,

I’m sorry to hear about your water problem, but also secretly glad you feel so entitled. Governments from Indus Valley to Indira Gandhi to Narendra Modi have repeatedly told you that they will give you bread, cloth And House, Since you are an anti-Hindi Tamil person, that means food, clothing and housing. You’ve got home, even if it’s a little wet right now. You have clothes and food. What do you mean by demand for dry housing like a baby wanting a dry nappy? it is too much.

You are like the camel which in the end captured the whole tent and sent the Arabs into the desert. Oh sorry, I told a politically incorrect story. You are like an elephant that took possession of the tent and sent the mahout to the forest.

You cannot keep asking and asking for more and more things. Government or renewable? Even the real life characters are not giving eggs to the children and the children are silent. Why don’t you learn from them?

Our Prime Minister has announced only the other day that no one can demand Fundamental Rights. One should do duty first, then ask for. If you want dry house and drainage, first ask yourself what have you done for the government? Have you sent 5-6 WhatsApp history texts to your friend circle? Did you watch the latest Akshay Kumar thriller movie? Bell bottom? Did you put a life size cutout of the Chief Minister outside your house? See? You will do nothing, but you expect fundamental rights all the time.

Tamil Nadu government officials, on the other hand, have been busy and helpful. T. Nagar is clearly flooded as the drains were blocked by the corporation, people were dumping building debris in them. Now, after the floods, they can tender afresh and resume work to unblock the drains. This is known as doing one’s duty.

The National Human Rights Commission held its annual debate yesterday and chose as its theme “Are human rights a hindrance in fighting evils like terrorism and Naxalism?” As I ask, is civic greed a hindrance to growth, when government officials want to live a simple life with only Mercedes and foreign vacancies? Think about it.
