A measured approach from both teams saw less clear scoring probabilities in the early stages. Alvaro Vazquez was the first to hit the target for KBFC with a diving header, which was easily saved between sticks by Shankar Roy. SCEB’s goalkeeper was busy for the remainder of the first half, but he skillfully commanded his field to deny the Yellow Army a goal.
There were no goals to report in the first half as neither team was able to break the deadlock before going into the break. The second half started on a sensational note for KBFC as they went into prime courtesy of Enes Sipovich. Four minutes into the half, he connected well from a corner and guided a header behind the goalkeeper to score his first goal in the ISL.
Ivan Vukomanovic’s men continued to push for another goal after a nose-broken frown. Jorge Diaz made his way in the 68th minute but Roy saved his shot with ease. Immediately at the other end, Antonio Perosevic opened a volley that nearly caught Prabhasukhan Gill off-guard, but didn’t score a goal. Mario Rivera made several changes after the second water break to prompt his team to find an equalizer.
Heera Mondal got the yellow card late but could have turned red due to the nature of her tackle on Adrian Luna. Six minutes were added for a stoppage by the fourth official but KBFC held their lead and won with a determined defensive display.
Kerala Blasters FC will face a tough Test from ATK Mohun Bagan in their next outing at the Tilak Maidan stadium on Saturday, while SC East Bengal will take on ISL champions Mumbai City FC at the PJN Stadium on Tuesday after a gap of a week.
