ISL 2021-22 Kerala Blasters Preview: Manjappa dream again with a fresh start

After last disappointing season, Kerala Blasters The Indian Super League would like to present a serious challenge to the title. Realistically though, climbing up to a more respectable spot on the table would be a fair reward for their football-crazed supporters.

Serbia’s new coach Ivan Vukomanovic will take the field to defend the honor of his fans along with some new faces – Manjappa (aka Yellow Army).

Exciting players Enes Sipovic and Adrian Luna, former Chennaiyin defenders, have joined their ranks along with Jorge Pereira. Indians Rahul KP and Sahal Abdul Samad continue to be the star attractions for the Blasters.

Strength

Defense will again be the high point of their game with Spiovic being the notable additions of Marko Leskovic and Sanjeev Stalin. The always confident Nishu Kumar will continue to be a strong presence for the Blasters.

The addition of Harmanjot Khabra will give Vukomanovic flexibility when it comes to setting up his team with the likes of Givson Singh and Jackson Singh in the mid-field.

weakness

A serious attacking threat with KBFC finding the right balance and mix of Indian and foreign players remains a problem, which could prove difficult for Vukomanovic. lvaro Vazquez and Jorge Diaz are expected to find the back of the net given their pedigree but are unproven in Indian conditions.

Bhutan captain and star player Chencho Geltshen has experience playing and acting in India, but his effectiveness against tall and strong foreign defenders could be a cause for concern for fans.

ISL 2020-21 Performance

Last season, Kerala Blasters finished 10th with just three wins, eight draws and nine losses. He scored the second highest number of goals and could not score too many goals.

Most Notable New Signatures

Khabra’s departure from Bengaluru along with Sipovich will boost Kerala Blasters’ defense as Luna Pereira and Gelthsen are expected to shine in front of goals.

His most important signing though may be India’s Under-17 star Stalin, who is making his ISL debut with Portuguese Primeira Liga club CD Aves and third division club Cerence.

ISL. in history

Kerala Blasters have been runners-up twice in the ISL, losing to ATK (now known as ATK Mohun Bagan) on both the occasions. Apart from the 2014 and 2016 seasons, KBFC has failed to qualify for the playoffs in all other seasons.

probability/prediction

Manjappa will be hoping that this time it will be different and everything will fall into place with their promising squad. A mid-table finish is possible with the other teams leaving the other teams to hold Kerala Blasters.
