ISL 2021-22: Kerala Blasters take on Chennaiyin FC in a do-or-die battle for the semi-final spot

There will be no room for fault for Kerala Blasters FC as they look to consolidate their semi-final chances when they take on Chennaiyin FC in a crucial Indian Super League match here on Saturday.

Kerala lost their last match to League Leaders Hyderabad and finished fifth with 27 points from 17 matches.

Mumbai City FC are fourth with 28 in their kitty, and Islanders FC take on Goa in kickoff late on Saturday, which means Kerala will be looking to keep them on their toes with a win earlier in the day.

Hyderabad has already reached the semi-finals and will have to fight for the remaining three places. Jamshedpur FC have an advantage as they are second with 31 points but with two games in hand.

Alvaro Vazquez is in top form and has once again shown his class in the second half against Hyderabad.

Kerala Blasters head coach Ivan Vukomanovic said that Nishu Kumar and Jackson Singh are the suspects for Saturday.

Jorge Pereira de Az was not available for the previous game as he was serving a one-match suspension, and the coach said they were still awaiting his decision.

“We will see him in training today and take a decision. We won’t take any risk and I don’t like losing players at this stage of the season. So we will be careful.”

For Chennaiyin, the season is over in terms of making it to the semi-finals but are proud to play for the Sabir Pasha-coached side.

Chennaiyin are in the middle of a winless run that has not won them any of their last six games (two draws and four losses) and are looking to get back on their winning path and end the season on a high.

Chennaiyin’s defense has been found to be weak in the last six matches. He has scored at least two goals in a game in five of his last six matches.
