ATK Mohun Bagan coach Juan Ferrando insisted that penalties were the turning point of the match and how his team’s ‘recurring problem’ haunts him.
“In those moments when the team conceded goals, players lost confidence, leading to wrong passes, missing opportunities,” Ferrando said at the post-match press conference.
“After the penalty, things took a different turn for the players as the mindset changed, players started losing confidence, it was necessary to change (style of play), try something different, support them. Sometimes, it is necessary to change, this situation is definitely not good for them, and 100% there will be a change in mindset,” he said.
“It is a recurring problem when we miss opportunities. When we have 5-6 chances, it is necessary to score three of them and in this match we faced a big problem in doing that.
Chennaiyin FC will return home to host Bengaluru FC on 14 October as ATK Mohun Bagan travel to face Kerala Blasters in their second match on 16 October.
