‘It is in the interest of the state’: Bihar CM on state government’s plan to buy new aircraft

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has defended the state government’s decision to buy new aircraft and helicopters for the movement of VIPs and VVIPs, calling it ‘in the interest of the state’.

He said that this scheme has been pending for a long time.

“The plan to purchase a new aircraft and a helicopter is pending for a long time. The decision of the cabinet to approve the proposal to purchase new aircraft and helicopters is in the interest of the state.”

The Chief Minister also criticized leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for criticizing the state government over plans to buy a new aircraft.

“It is quite surprising that they (BJP leaders) are making such statements… One should ask them about the things they were planning to buy during the NDA rule in Bihar,” he said.

This came in response to questions from media persons who sought his views on senior state BJP leader and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi’s remarks that the aircraft to be bought by the state government would be used for Kumar’s dream of becoming prime minister. Senior BJP leader on Wednesday said, “The new jet aircraft worth over 250 crores will not be used in Bihar as the state has few runways, instead, it will be used for Nitish Kumar’s dream of becoming PM 2024.” Which will not be complete anyway. This plane is being bought for him to travel across the country.”

The Bihar cabinet in its meeting on Tuesday approved the proposal to buy a new jet engine aircraft and a helicopter for the movement of VIPs and VVIPs.

When asked about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo’ visit, the CM refused to comment saying, “It is an internal matter of the Congress party”.

According to a PTI report, Kumar visited the Takht Shri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib Gurdwara in Patna city area and participated in religious programs organized on the occasion of the 356th Prakash Purb of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs.

Soon after reaching the gurudwara, Kumar bowed his head before the holy Guru Granth Sahib. The office bearers of the Managing Committee welcomed the CM.
