One of those under the radar is said to be close to a politically powerful family
In an early morning operation by Income Tax officials in Karnataka, premises of contractors for major irrigation works were searched for alleged non-disclosure of income. Sources said around 300 IT officials had searched 30 premises of at least six contractors on October 7.
A person said to be close to the political family has also come under the scanner. Political observers say that the man came into the limelight for interfering in administrative matters in the water resources and public works departments.
According to sources, the searches include tax consultants attached to firms and some persons who supply construction materials, including steel, for government projects, especially in the irrigation sector.
‘No relation to politics’
Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa refused to link the raids with politics. “IT raids keep happening. There is nothing special about them,” he told reporters in Shikaripura on October 7.
Mr Yediyurappa said Umesh, whose properties were searched by IT officials, was working with him when he was the CM. “I don’t know the details. I will react to the developments once I get the details.”
“IT people are doing their duty. They will take action against all those who have done wrong. The searches will have no effect on the bypolls in Sindgi and Hangal. BJP candidates will win. People will teach a lesson to JD(S) and Congress. , “They said.
