Jalandhar: Lowest turnout in Doaba region of Punjab Jalandhar The Central constituency (60.65%) and Balachaur constituency had the highest (73.77%) when the state went to polls on Sunday, the figures showed on Monday.
The region comprises four districts and 23 of the total 117 seats in the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
The average of Jalandhar district was around 66.97%. Nawanshahr in the district witnessed 70.75 per cent voting. The average turnout in Hoshiarpur district was 68.66%. The data shows that the turnout was lower in urban areas as compared to rural areas. Only four constituencies, each of the four districts, saw turnout above 70%. Among them Balachaur, Sultanpur Lodhi (72.55%), which had quadruple competition, Shahkoti (72.77%) and Chabbewal (71.19%).
Of the four seats, only Chhabbewal is reserved for the SC community. The seat was a triangular contest between Congress, SAD and AAP.
