Jammu and KashmirA 40-year-old Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead by terrorists in Pulwama district on Sunday while he was on his way to a local market. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Sharma. He worked as an ATM security guard.

Raees Bhat, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the South Kashmir range, said it was a “planned attack”.

“We had security here as well. The circumstances under which the attack took place is a matter of investigation. We will proceed on the basis of what emerges from these investigations,” he said.

The DIG said, “We are verifying the information we have received so far. The terrorists involved in this crime will be traced and killed soon… We will not let the terrorists succeed in their nefarious designs.”

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha has condemned this cowardly act of terrorists.

The Lt Governor said, “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The administration has given complete freedom to the security forces to deal with the terrorists and we will continue to combat such acts of terrorism firmly and decisively.”

“I am deeply saddened to know about the barbaric killing of Sanjay ji. My deepest sympathies and unwavering support are with the bereaved family. The words of condemnation and condolence are hollow and the government’s assurances of the safety of the lives of the people are also hollow. This killing again raises disturbing questions on the security apparatus, law and order situation in the Valley,” said NC chief Farooq Abdullah.
