On the eve of Republic Day, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha handed over certificates to selected youths who availed the facility to start their business ventures in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We have taken several steps to create supporting infrastructure, plans and policies to accelerate the economic development of Jammu and Kashmir and meet the aspirations of the youth. Mission Youth, JKRLM and other government agencies, along with J&K Bank are helping thousands of new entrepreneurs to set up businesses. The drive created a new record during ‘Back to Village’ and ‘My Town My Pride’, enabling 75,000 young entrepreneurs to celebrate the elixir of independence and start a new chapter in their lives.
During the Back 2 Village-4 and My Town My Pride 2.0 campaign period launched by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir from October 27, 2022 and November 28, 2022 respectively, banks in the United States to organize employment generation camps as per the instructions . Of the Government.
The objective of the campaign was to create awareness among local youth about various financial schemes and products for setting up/expansion of business units/enterprises.
Banks were able to set up around 6,600 counters/camps during the campaign period. Camps were organized in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir including the backward areas of Doda, Rajouri, Reasi, Poonch, Kathua, Kupwara, Shopian, Bandipora, Kulgam and Anantnag.
About 60,000 loan cases were received by banks under various schemes (indigenous/government sponsored) through these camps, which resulted in providing employment opportunities to about 75,000 beneficiaries.
In both the campaigns, the beneficiaries have been able to set up business enterprises largely under the following sectors:
- Production
- Services
- retail and wholesale trade
- transportation
- Allied agriculture sector (like poultry, dairy, animal husbandry, fisheries etc.)
- Agri Infra
Conscious of its role for the upliftment of various socio-economic sectors of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and to live up to the expectations of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, J&K Bank is committed to providing loans to unemployed youth including women during the campaign period. Biggest contribution. J&K Bank has set up 2,627 counters/camps in the backward districts of Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Bandipur, Kupwara and Kulgam.
A look at the leading districts in terms of persons benefitted during the campaign period. Pulwama has created a new history by giving an opportunity to 7,324 youth to become entrepreneurs.
In addition, to encourage and empower women, a significant number of women entrepreneurs were included during the campaign period, comprising about 15% of the total number of beneficiaries. Major activities for women beneficiaries include:
- handicrafts
- retail business
- Artisan activities like Dal/Embroidery, etc.
- Allied Agricultural Activities
- computerized desktop publishing
- Cyber cafe
- beauty Parlour
- Boutique / Tailoring
- Training Institute
- manufacturing and services

The administration will ensure that the aspirations, creativity and enterprise of every youth are realized and empowered. We have remained steadfast in our resolve to provide self-employment opportunities to the youth and last year under PMEGP, Jammu and Kashmir was ranked as the top performer in the country for setting up maximum units and generating maximum employment opportunities .
