Javed Jaffrey’s tweet on Takeshi’s palace is making 90s kids nostalgic

Javed Jaffrey’s commentary was largely responsible for the popularity of ‘Takeshi’s Palace’.

In an era before Netflix and Instagram reels, most entertainment came from good old television shows. From sitcoms to game shows, the ’90s saw a lot of remarkable material. One such show which was favorite among all age groups Takeshi’s Fortress. Contestants in the game show performed a series of actions that were almost designed to end them in ridiculous situations and hilarious collapses. Needless to say, the Japanese show was a laugh riot in more ways than one and it still has a loyal fan base today. Back in India, dancer-actor Javed Jaffrey served as the host for the dubbed Hindi version.

Now, the host who was Takeshi’s Castle The Indian voice sent the internet into meltdown when he replied to a meme about the iconic show. Mr Jaffrey was reacting to a meme that said, “12 people have gone to the moon, but only 9 have won Takeshi’s palace.”

Posting the meme, Mr Jaffrey said, “I’ve seen 3 of them…and still don’t understand what they won,” referring to the eccentric and downright ridiculous nature of the rib-tickling acts.

The tweet sent users into a nostalgia, with many taking the opportunity to praise Mr Jaffrey’s impeccable sense of humor as the show’s host. Civil servant Nirupama Kotru attributed her commentary to the show’s popularity in India.

One user commented, ‘Takeshi’s palace has seen a tough few years. Javed Jaffrey, your voice had a lot to do with it. Thank you.”

One user said, “Your running commentary was hilarious… a very entertaining show that made the audience laugh just before going to bed.”

Another viewer said that the show made him laugh, no matter how many times he watched it.

It came as no surprise that soon users were asking for the show to be restarted and Mr. Jaffrey’s famous commentary.

Takeshi’s Fortress Originally broadcast on the Tokyo Broadcasting System between 1986 and 1990. Mr Jaffrey, known for projects like Boogie Woogie And Salaam Namaste, hosted the abridged, dubbed version in 2005.
