JEE Main 2022: Tips for Ace Chemistry Section

With the first phase of JEE (Mains), experts try to give the students perspective about the exam. The article in hand belongs to the Chemistry section of the paper. It will give an idea about the highest scoring sections, strategy, books to follow and other important aspects which will help the students to score better.

JEE (Main) is an objective type paper consisting of three parts. Three subjects A, B and C are devoted to each of the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, not necessarily in the given order.

Each part is further divided into two sections, Section-I and Section-II. Section-I consists of 20 MCQs containing one choice correct type questions whereas Section-II consists of 10 numerical value based questions out of which only five are to be answered. All questions for Chemistry part like Physics and Mathematics part carry four marks each carrying full 100 marks.

The Chemistry part is considered the easiest by most of the students because of the fact based content. A sufficient number of questions can be solved by memorizing the material. The marks obtained in this part can be a rank decider. Also, almost every question is NCERT based, so it is important to go through the NCERT books thoroughly.

Must do chapter in chemistry

Chapters like equilibrium, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, electrochemistry from the bulk of physical chemistry and not a single one of them can be missed. Numerical Value Based Questions and Numerical Single Choice Correct MCQs are most likely to be asked from those chapters. Extensive practice of questions will keep the students in a good position in these chapters.

A good strategy is to practice named classes and feedback mechanisms on a regular basis. GOC, Biomolecules, Chemical reactions of carbonyl compounds as well as alcohol are some of the chapters on which questions are frequently asked.

Intensive and systematic reading of NCERT books with integrated problem solving for chapters like p-block elements from NCERT examples, and coordination compounds etc. is a must to score high. Meanwhile, chapters like Biomolecules, Chemistry in Everyday Life, Polymers, Surface Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry are also unmissable.

key tips

1. Solving Previous Year Papers: Previous year papers especially the papers conducted in four phases of 2020 and 2021 sessions will be of great help in terms of trend, difficulty level and relevance. A time bound practice will give the real feel of the exam and a student will prepare for the exam.

2. Revision: Revision is an important key to score high marks in the exam. Revision through underlined material, short notes, mnemonics definitely helps. It would be better if the idea of space duplication is implemented regularly. During the last few days before the exam students must revise all the formulas/facts and responses efficiently. They have to go through error analysis.

3. Be aware of your strengths and weaknesses: It helps to know your strengths and weaknesses. It is extremely important to plan and manage your strategies before and during the exam, especially in deciding which part should be done first and so on.

4. Consult your teachers: For every doubt, your teachers go to individuals. They know you very well and will help you when you need it, whether it is subject related or otherwise.

strategy for exam

To get a good rank in JEE (Main) it is necessary to perform well in Chemistry. Here are the following tips which can definitely be helpful for the candidates.

  • One week before the exam, devote two hours to organic chemistry, two hours of inorganic chemistry and one hour to physical chemistry daily to refine your facts and tricks.
  • Try to solve the Chemistry part first within the first hour as it has some easy questions. Those easy selections will make you feel confident and will be a great morale booster for the maths and physics parts.
  • Note down all the mistakes that you make in your practice papers and remove them at the first available opportunity. Make a record of all such mistakes and check them again before the exam. This will prevent you from repeating them in the actual exam.
  • Each chapter of chemistry has a different tone and tenor. Reach out to him and pay attention to his peculiarities. Take notes and revise them after regular time interval.

Important Books:

Here is also a list of some important books that candidates can study. First on the list are NCERT and NCERT examples, then there are JD Lee (Inorganic Chemistry), Peter Psyche and Solomon Friel (Organic Chemistry), and Atkin (Physical Chemistry).
