JEE Main Day 5: Difficult questions in maths can be the deciding factor

Students who took the JEE Main 2022 exam today, June 27, found the Mathematics section difficult. Even though the exam was of moderate difficulty overall, there were some tough questions in the maths section, which most of the students found difficult. The Physics section which is usually the toughest was rated as moderately difficult by most of the students.

“For a lot of students, the maths part was moderate. There were 7 to 8 questions from Calculus, at least six questions from Algebra and two questions from Vector and 3D, and about five questions from Coordinate Geometry,” said Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash+BYJU’S.

The numerical section used to have lengthy calculations. Ramesh Butlish, an expert at FIITJEE said, some questions were said to be difficult. “Questions were asked from all the chapters with emphasis on conic sections and chapters of algebra. Some of the good questions asked from the chapters include probability, determinants, progressions, straight lines and ellipses, 3D geometry, definite integrals and differential equations,” he said.

In terms of difficulty, both the experts agreed that Mathematics was the toughest section followed by Physics and Chemistry as the easiest.

“The questions from Physical, Organic and Inorganic parts were equally distributed, the entire paper was NCERT based. Covering NCERT and its examples will be the key to score good marks. Chapters like Polymers and Chemistry in Daily Life, Biomolecules and Environmental Chemistry besides regular subjects were found due to representation in the paper,” said Sharma.

Bottic stated that more weight was given to physical chemistry than to inorganic and organic chemistry. The numerical-based questions were mostly from physical chemistry, including electrochemistry, mole concepts, ionic equilibrium, and solid-state. Questions were also asked from everyday life chemistry, environmental chemistry, p-blocks, phenols, chemical bonding, coordination chemistry, Battlish said.

In Physics, questions asked from Kinematics, Work, Power and Energy, Heat and Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Magnetism, AC Circuits, Current Electricity, and Modern Physics and Wave Optics. Marks based questions were easy, says Batlish
