The satellite arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Jio Infocomm has received a letter of intent (LoI) from the Department of Telecommunications for satellite communication services. It was released on 12 September.
The report said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has provided the company with a letter of intent for Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) services.
After LOI, the firm can set up and operate GMPCS services in the licensed service areas. The licenses are for a period of 20 years and the offerings under the GMPCS include voice and data services via satellite.

These mobile satellite networks can work with Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Geosynchronous (GEO) satellites.
Mukesh Ambani’s firm, on February 14, 2022, announced a joint venture with billionaires Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Sunil Mittal’s OneWeb to provide satellite-based broadband services across India with reliable, high-speed Everywhere had joined the race to offer the Internet.
Also, Jio Platforms had announced a joint venture with Luxembourg-based SES to provide satellite-based broadband services in India.
