J&K bans government employees from criticizing policies online

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has barred government employees from making adverse comments or criticizing the policies of the government on social media platforms.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, in a recent meeting, asked all administrative secretaries of the Union Territory (UT) to “regularly monitor social media networks and stop employees making adverse comments on the policies and achievements of the government”. directed to identify the etc. on social media”.

Mr Mehta has directed officials to “issue notices to these employees under intimation to the General Administrative Department (GAD)”. An official release said the GAD is issuing necessary ‘circular instructions’ in this regard.

The directive from the Jammu and Kashmir administration has come amidst the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in the union territory. This campaign was criticized by many sections of the society in Jammu and Kashmir.

The LG administration had constituted a Special Task Force (STF) in April 2021 to identify and investigate government servants involved in any case threatening the country’s security or anti-national activities.
