J&K reconstruction: on Amit Shah’s visit

JAmmu and Kashmir bored the Pakistan’s reaction to Operation Sindoor, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah focused on both security and development during his visit to Poonch, where residential areas were shot from across the border. A comprehensive relief package is planned with the construction of more underground shelters for citizens. The J&K government is still in the process of assessing the damage, but Poonch was the worst affected district so far. A preliminary report presented by a committee established by the BJP to the Ministry of Home Affairs identified 1,500 houses – 690 in Poonch and 534 in URI – which was damaged in indiscriminate shelling. At least 18 citizens – 14 in Poonach alone – lost their lives. Pakistani Shelling killed cities in Poonch, Baramulla, Kupwara and Rajouri, and the civic infrastructure was under considerable damage. Mr. Shah visited the affected areas on Friday, expressed solidarity with the people, and handed over the job appointment letters to the families of those who lost their lives. Earlier, the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi and representatives of the Trinamool Congress met the victims.

These border residents felt, their feeling of fear spread to some extent, and these visits boosted their morale. The Indian Army’s statement on India and Pakistan “is not a termination date” is confident to the border residents. Life is returning to normal position with residents returning to their homes, many of them were shattered by shelling. The J&K government is struggling to meet the demands of the affected population. This was clear from a relief amount of up to ₹ 1.2 lakh for a fully damaged houses. The affected and displaced residents described it as “insufficient” to return to their once-conversion and multi-storey homes. Against this background, Mr. Shah’s promise of a relief package is a ray of hope. Around 9,500 bunkers – 8,000 in Jammu Division and 1,500 in Kashmir Valley – is still built by the Center. However, there is a growing demand of individual bunkers in the population located in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Kashmir Valley, in the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Kashmir Valley, in the Kashmir Valley. In J&K, the Center and the elected government should work together to help the border residents who are in crisis.
