Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Collaborated with International Organization for Migration (IOM) to create Center of Excellence (CoE) with PhD scholars from ‘School of International Studies’, JNU. The research will include conducting digital surveys, locating skill gaps and related economic and sectoral skill requirements.
The COE will research and publish data about mobility, use regional data to build economic and skills radar and develop a happiness index, to name a few. Digital survey will also play an important role as economic and skills radar for foreign companies India and for overseas Indian expatriates.

The data collected from the surveys will be used by the CoE for sector-specific skill gap analysis and supporting the ecosystem of corporates, investors, academicians and most importantly job seekers. One way to do this would be through periodic newsletters complemented by digital mediums such as AI-powered dashboards, portals, etc., to disseminate and bridge the information gap.
In addition to digital surveys, focused research-based studies will also be conducted for data collection, publication and analysis. It is envisioned that the CoE will work closely with the overseas Indian diaspora to understand new and emerging employment challenges and opportunities.
Professor Pandit, the first woman VC of JNU, commented on how the agreement is in sync with the government’s foreign policy of ‘Development, Democracy and Diaspora’, in which this data gathering exercise is done through coordinated efforts and combined capabilities of all stakeholders. A professional organization will be appointed for program management of the CoE. The organization will also liaise with various government agencies such as NITI Aayog, Invest India as well as the Confederation of Indian Industry etc. to work within the broad spectrum of the programme. A team of relevant stakeholders will oversee the day-to-day functioning of the CoE.
