London: Relations with Britain France is rock solid, prime minister boris johnson Said on Thursday, when asked about a new defense agreement Australia and the United States which foils the current French-Australian submarine deal.
France on Wednesday reacted angrily to reports of an ‘Auks’ partnership that would help Australia acquire US nuclear-powered submarines and scrap a $40 billion French-designed submarine deal.
But, when asked in parliament about relations with France, Johnson dismissed any controversy.
“Our relations with France, our military relations with France … are very strong,” he said.
“We stand shoulder to shoulder with the French, whether it is in the Sahel, where we are conducting a joint operation against terrorists. Gardner, or whether in Estonia, where we currently have our largest NATO operation.”
The defense deal has also angered China, which it says will seriously damage regional peace and stability.
Johnson was asked by the leader of the opposition Labor Party Keer starrer How can he ensure that this move does not spoil Britain’s relations with China?
Johnson replied: “I think it is important for the House to understand that the purpose of AUKUS is not to be hostile to any other power … it only reflects our close relationship with the United States and Australia.”
