Jos Buttler has been appointed the captain of England’s white ball.
joss butler was appointed as England’s new white-ball captain on Thursday and took immediate charge of the Twenty20 and One Day International cricket teams.
Vice-captain since 2015, Butler, 31, has deputed for Eoin Morgan Morgan was ruled out with a groin injury on 14 occasions, including in the Netherlands last week.
Morgan announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday and the England and Wales Cricket Board wasted little time confirming Butler’s promotion.
Buttler will lead the 12-match T20 and ODI series against India and South Africa in July.
The wicketkeeper-batsman is a ferocious striker of the ball. He has played 151 ODIs for England, scoring 4,120 runs at an average of 41.20, including 10 centuries and 21 fifties. In T20Is, he has won 88 caps by scoring 2,140 runs at an average of 34.51.
Butler is one of three England cricketers – along with David Malan and Heather Knight – to have scored centuries in all three formats of the game.
Butler said, “It is a great honor to take over from Eoin, and the place he has left in English white-ball cricket is exciting, and I look forward to the challenges ahead.”
Morgan is credited with turning England’s white-ball fortunes around in 2015 with a bold, inventive approach. He led England to their maiden Men’s Cricket World Cup title and top of the ODI and T20 rankings in 2019.
