New Delhi: Indian tourists thronged turkey (formerly known as Turkey), which recently lifted all COVID-time entry restrictions like never before this summer. Turkey Tourism Board (TTB) says that more than 27,300 Indians visited the country this June – the highest monthly figure for domestic tourists there so far. The previous high was in June 2019 when 24,000 Indians went to Turkey.
“Turkey welcomed 52 million travelers in 2019, touching $34.5 billion in tourism revenue. Of these, 2.3 lakh were Indian nationals, which is the highest number of Indian passengers recorded so far by the country,” TTB said in a statement.
Now Turkey, like almost every major tourist destination globally, is eager to attract foreign arrivals as pandemic-time travel restrictions ease. The Indian globetrotter is making the most of this reopening, especially after India allowed regular overseas flights earlier this year.
“Turkey recently eased all COVID-19 related travel restrictions for Indian visitors, the country hosted the highest number of travelers from India in June 2022. Turkey received over 27,300 Indian tourists in June 2022, breaking all previous inbound travel. Ease of obtaining visas from India on record, in a single month….. personal and leisure travel (and) carriers such as Turkish Airlines And with Indigo resuming direct flights to the country, traveling to Turkey has become more convenient for Indians,” TTB said in a statement.
India has been one of the top source markets for visitors to Turkey. “May and October are the most preferred months for Indian tourists to visit Turkey… indicating that more record-breaking numbers will follow in the coming months.”
