New Delhi: Supreme Court Justice Brai Gavai, while hearing a case on West Bengal violence on Monday, said in a clear context of recent attacks on the judiciary, “As we accuse them of encroaching on parliamentary and executive work.”

Justice Gawai, who was going on a bench, also included a similar observation in another case, which included Justice Augustine George Maasih.

Jain said that the deployment of paramilitary forces and immediate action was required.

He referred to Article 355 of the Constitution, which relates to the duty of the Union to protect the states against external aggression and internal disturbances, and the apex court could call for a report as to what was happening in the state.

Jain said that the apex court had earlier issued a notice on the 2021 petition.

“When the matter comes to light, I will showcase how violence took place,” he said.

The latest petition urged the court to appoint a three -member committee headed by a retired apex court judge to appoint violence, human rights violations and crime against women from 2022 to April 2025, especially recent violence in Murshidabad in West Bengal.
