Kailasa representative attends UN meet, demands end to ‘persecution’ of Nithyananda

Self-styled godman Nithyananda’s representatives from the unrecognized island nation attended a meeting of the United Nations last week. As per the update shared by the fugitive leader, the Republic of Kailasa had sought security for the “high priest of Hinduism”.

Footage of a saffron-clad woman attending a meeting of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has since gone viral. The person – self-identifying as Vijayapriya Nithyananda – contends that she is the ‘Permanent Ambassador of Kailasa to the United Nations’.

Vijayapriya spoke about the many initiatives taken by her ‘country’ when it comes to ‘sustainable development’. He alleged that Nithyananda was persecuted and banned from the country of his birth for reviving the ancient traditions of Hinduism. The ‘representative’ also asked the UN body about the measures that could be taken to stop its ‘persecution’.

Social media posts shared by accounts linked to Nithyananda also shared visuals of the incident. The video of the incident is also uploaded on the official website of the United Nations.

It is not yet clear how Kailash and his representatives managed to gain access to the UN.

In August last year, a Karnataka court had issued a non-bailable warrant against the controversial tantrik in a rape case. A case was registered against Nithyananda in 2010 on the basis of a complaint by his former driver Lenin. The controversial guru has however failed to respond to all the summons issued against him since 2019.

Against this background, reports had emerged in recent years indicating that he had created a Hindu Rashtra called Kailash. Located on an island near Ecuador, the ‘country’ has its own flag and political structure and even the ‘Reserve Bank of Calais’.
