‘Kal Ho Na Ho Lives On’: Karan Johar’s reaction to US Navy band’s song

Bollywood music is not just limited to India. From time to time, videos showing foreigners singing or dancing to famous Hindi music surfaced online. The song ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ from the 2003 film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta has become a darling of millions. Well, let’s say the rendition of the title track of the film Kal Ho Naa Ho as it was sung by US Navy officials and guess what, it caught the attention of producer Karan Johar.

The filmmaker re-shared the video on his official Twitter handle and tagged Shah Rukh Khan, director Nikkhil Advani as well as lyricist Javed Akhtar and composers Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. Karan Johar wrote in the caption, ‘Aur song is alive’.

In the short clip, several US Navy officers were seen playing the tunes of ‘Kal ho na ho’ while some played guitar. As per the original tweet, the video appears to have been taken during a dinner hosted by the US Secretary of the Navy on a boat.

In fact the video has left many emotional and has also garnered praise from the film industry. Dharma Productions wrote, “It’s mesmerizing to see the tunes of #KalhoNaHo travel across the globe and bring equal peace and love to one and all.”

One of the Twitter users wrote, “Yeh srk ka movie ka nahi hota hai maybe bahar wale anjaan rahe hai song se .. (if Shahrukh Khan Had not acted in the film, many people around the world would not have known about the song.)

Some even asked the director if he had any plans to reunite with Shah Rukh Khan. “One of the best songs of all time. #KHNH @karanjohar when filming with SRK?”

A third said, “When another nation’s navy/army is following your song, you are definitely a huge global star. Proud of you @iamsrk sir.” Another wrote, “Classic”.

The original video has garnered over 80,000 views and nearly 3000 likes. The hit song of Kal Ho Naa Ho was sung by Sonu Nigam for unknown people.
