Film director and president of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Kamal has said that the contemporary art exhibition Lokme Theravada in Alappuzha should continue.
He was speaking after visiting the art exhibition on Friday. “I was really surprised to see Lokme Theravadu. I have attended the Kochi Biennial many times. The Biennial is an international event that attracts all art lovers. It is interesting that Lokme Theravada, of a similar nature to the Biennale, brought to Alappuzha. which has the characteristic of being a heritage city,” said Mr. Kamal.
“My opinion is that Lokme Theravadu, where artists from new and old generations come together, should continue. Even after this edition, it should continue as a biennial as well on the soil of Alappuzha,” he said.
Shri Kamal said that Lokme Tharavadu offered a great collage of variety of paintings and pluralism. “Cinema is an art form that has reached the masses and become popular. Painting is another approach to it. Painting and sculpture existed here centuries before the advent of cinema. I think painting is a reality of human life. Cinema often doesn’t feel like a realistic depiction of life. In painting, an artist looks at ordinary people and their lives, their worries, frenzy, joy and many different expressions from multiple perspectives,” he said.
Organized by the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with the state government, the show features the works of 267 artists across seven different locations in Alappuzha. The exhibition has been conceptualized and curated by Bose Krishnamachari.
