DMK MP Kanimozhi has written to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri requesting that the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited stop production at its refinery in Chennai until it fixes its gas leak problem.

Ms Kanimozhi said that the committee had made several recommendations to CPCL to stop its gas leak, “but it is painful to note that CPCL has been ignorant of the seriousness of the problem and has been seen to act complacent”.

He said that people of the area are in panic due to increase in leakage of poisonous gas in TKS Nagar and Kamdevan Nagar area on August 7. He said that it is important that CPCL accepts the recommendations of the expert committee, fixes its gas leak problem immediately and till then stop its production activities.
