Bengaluru: Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep on Wednesday said he will campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming elections in Karnataka and dismissed speculation about contesting as a candidate.
Speaking to reporters at the Bangalore airport here, the actor said, “I will only campaign for the BJP, will not contest elections.”
BJP sources had earlier said that the actor is likely to join the party today in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other party leaders. Assembly elections in Karnataka are to be held on May 10.
Karnataka Transport Minister B Siramulu said the inclusion of the actor would benefit the BJP. “Kichha Sudeep is a popular actor as well as a very popular leader. He is a very big artist in the whole country. His support to BJP will be very beneficial for our party.
The Karnataka minister said the inclusion of artistes and several leaders from other parties would strengthen the party.
JDS leaders and other artists are joining BJP one after the other. Our party is strong, but with his arrival, we will be even stronger. We will get 100 per cent votes for Karnataka this time.
The minister also said that there is no anti-incumbency wave in the state and the BJP will return to power again.
“People have a lot of faith in our party. The Prime Minister is leading the country, our Bommai ji is the Chief Minister here. That’s why people want the BJP government to come here too. There is nothing like anti-incumbency here, only the people of the opposition keep discussing it because they have no work to do. But, we will return to power once again.
Meanwhile, the police on Wednesday received an alleged threat letter to Jack Manju, manager of Kiccha Sudeep, after which the police have registered a case in this matter.
According to the police, Sudeep’s manager received a letter from an unknown person, threatening to release “private videos” of the actor on social media.
