MLA Uday Garudachar was released on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and bail.

BJP MLA Uday Garudachar was on Thursday sentenced to two months’ imprisonment by a local court in Bengaluru for hiding information in an election affidavit.
An Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court sentenced him to jail and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for failing to mention two pending criminal cases against him and the fact that he was the managing director of a private company.
He has been found guilty under the Representation of the People Act after a complaint was filed by a person in this regard.
Though the MLA has been sentenced, observing that the sentence is less than two years, the court granted him bail, allowing him to appeal in the High Court. He was released on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and bail.
Uday Garudachar contested the 2018 elections from Chickpet assembly constituency from Bengaluru and won on a BJP ticket. This affidavit was filed on 18 April 2018.
It was alleged that though he was the managing director of the private firm, he was mentioned only as an investor in his affidavit. His wife was a director of the same company, which was not even mentioned in the election affidavit. It was also found that he had not mentioned the bank account details of his wife in the affidavit.
The charge filed by a court against him read, “The accused was aware of the criminal case…pending…the accused had not mentioned it in the affidavit. The accused has given a false affidavit and submitted it earlier. election officer.”
“The accused was also required to furnish the bank balance of his wife in the affidavit. But he has not disclosed the actual balance in her account as on the date of filing the said affidavit. The trial court, while sentencing him, said that the charges against the MLA have been proved.
