“Our leadership is a bit busy with Gujarat elections,” the chief minister said.
Bangalore:
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday indicated that his cabinet is likely to expand after the Gujarat Assembly elections. Gujarat will go to the polls in two phases on December 8 with the counting of votes on December 1 and 5.
“Cabinet expansion…I have already spoken…Our leadership is a bit busy with Gujarat elections, they will call me (for discussion) as soon as it is over,” Bommai said in response to a question. ,
The Chief Minister had recently said that he would soon visit New Delhi and meet the BJP’s central leadership to discuss the exercise.
Mr Bommai had been under tremendous pressure for some time to make room for new faces ahead of the assembly elections next year, with the cabinet not being expanded.
There were some reports of a possible cabinet expansion of a sort of reshuffle by filling six vacancies or dropping some and inducting an equal number of new faces.
There was also talk in some circles that a complete top to bottom overhaul of the state ministry like Gujarat could be done. Many candidates feel that “it is too late now” with the elections approaching.
