Karnataka Congress leaders alleged that the Basavaraj Bommai-led government was built on a foundation of defections and corruption, and had become anathema to ‘Brand Karnataka’

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is all set to present his last budget on Friday before the assembly elections, targeting more and more sections, but the Karnataka Congress is leaving no stone unturned to attack the ruling BJP. unfulfilled” manifesto promises.

Describing Bommai as a habitual liar, Congress general secretary and in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Thursday, “Bhrashtasura” (corrupt) Bommai government has left behind broken promises and broken dreams as its term ends. And shameless loot of public money.”

Surjewala posed six questions to Bommai and sought answers:

  1. As the Bommai government presents its last budget, why has it utterly failed to deliver on 91 per cent of the 600 promises made in the BJP’s 2018 manifesto?
  2. Why did the BJP government fail to fulfill 97 out of 112 promises made to Rytu Bandhu? What happened to the promise of ‘farmer loan waiver’? What happened to the promise of ‘reasonable MSP’?
  3. Why has the BJP government failed to fulfill 24 out of 26 promises made to women? What happened to the Rs 10,000 crore ‘Stree Unnati Nidhi’? Where are the free smartphones for Karnataka girls?
  4. Why has the BJP government completely failed to fulfill 17 out of 18 promises made to the youth of Karnataka? What happened to filling all the vacant government posts? Why are 2,52,000 government posts still vacant? Why didn’t you build even a single PU college with the promise of Rs 1300 crore? Why is the promise of “free education up to degree level” being thrown in the dustbin?
  5. Why has the BJP government cheated the SC/ST/OBC communities by not fulfilling 77 of the 81 promises made in the BJP’s 2018 manifesto? Where is the promise of Rs 4500 crore scholarship to SC/ST/OBC students? Where is the Rs 15,000 crore promised for SC/ST/OBC? Why have you cheated SC/ST by misappropriating Rs 7,000 crore of SC/ST sub plan fund?
  6. Why have you failed to fulfill 29 out of 32 promises made in the field of education, 35 out of 40 in health, 40 out of 48 in infrastructure and 22 out of 23 in industrial development in BJP’s 2018 election manifesto?

Bommai, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the budget on Friday. The budget is going to be crucial for the ruling BJP as it will be the last one before the assembly elections. Although the BJP in the state said it was going to be a “pro-people” budget, the opposition said it was the BJP’s “farewell” budget.
