Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and BJP stalwart BS Yediyurappa will begin the party’s election tour in the state from Raichur on Tuesday in view of the assembly elections due next year. Both will cover 52 assembly constituencies by December 25 under the ‘Jan Sankalp Yatra’.
The ruling party’s tour begins when the India pair of Congress is led by the Yatra Rahul Gandhi passing through the state. “The purpose of the Jan Sankalp Yatra is to inform the programmes, actions and policies of the BJP government in the state and at the Centre, and also to send a message to the BJP office-bearers and workers to prepare for the elections with the resolve to bring the BJP together. Back to power in the state,” Bommai said.
Talking to reporters here before leaving for Raichur, he said, “There is excitement everywhere. Through Jan Sankalp Yatra, we hope to gain the trust of the people and emerge victorious in the 2023 assembly elections.
According to the Chief Minister, during the visit he will interact with the beneficiaries of various schemes and visit some places as per the plans of the local party functionaries. Responding to a question, Bommai said he and his party were not worried about the Congress’s Bharat Jodi Yatra and said that the foot march has no effect.
“The world knows who it is to ‘join’ (unify) and ‘thodoing’ (divide). It doesn’t matter. We are not worried, we will go through the Sankalp Yatra to win elections by making people aware of our programs. It has nothing to do with (BJP’s Congress visit). Incidentally, BJP’s tour begins from Raichur Rural Assembly constituency, a ST reserved seat with a huge presence of Valmiki community.
The state government had last week decided to increase the reservation quota for scheduled castes from 15 per cent to 17 per cent and for scheduled tribes from 3 per cent to 7 per cent. Prasannaand Swami, the seer of Valmiki Gurupeeth, is on a hunger strike demanding an increase in the Scheduled Tribe quota. Bommai and Yediyurappa will mainly visit the ‘Kalyan Karnataka’ region.
Of the 52 seats he will visit, 20 constituencies are currently represented by Congress MLAs and four by JD(S). Along with this, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel will visit Haveri, Gadag and Hubli-Dharwad in the next three days.
The party has also planned seven rallies – SC Morcha in Mysuru on October 16, OBC Morcha in Kalaburagi on October 30, Raitha (Farmer) Morcha in Hubli on November 13, Yuva (Youth) Morcha in Shivamogga on November 27, ST Morcha .
