“Most people want to ban religious conversion. It (draft bill) is being reviewed by the law department. After review it will be approved in the cabinet meeting,” he told reporters here.
“In all likelihood, the proposed draft rule will be approved by the law department and the subject may come up for discussion (in the assembly session),” Bommai said.
Claiming that the conversion of religion was not good for the society, the CM said that the Dalit people should not bow down to it.
He told that his government is trying to bring in a law to prevent conversion to prevent people from facing hardship in families.
However, he clarified that people from all religious communities need not panic over the anti-conversion law.
Bommai said, “Hindu, Christian, Muslim and Sikh are religions recognized by the Constitution and people have no problem in praying or practicing their religion. However, by misusing one’s poverty to entice them to change their religion.” There’s no room for that.” said.
The Chief Minister said that since the independence of the country, religious conversion has always been a matter of debate and many states have introduced anti-conversion laws.
Several Christian organizations, including the Archdiocese of Bangalore, have opposed the proposed anti-conversion bill.
