Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday reviewed the damage caused by incessant rains in various parts of the state.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday chaired a meeting at his home office to review the damage caused by incessant rains in various parts of the state. According to sources, the preliminary report estimated the death of 24 people and crop damage on more than 5 hectares of land.
While 658 houses were completely damaged 8,495 houses were partially damaged. At least 191 animals are reported to have died. In addition, several roads, bridges, schools and public health centers were damaged.
The report said that Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Hassan districts have suffered extensive damage.
An amount of Rs 689 crore is available with the district collectors under the NDRF fund and more funds will be made available if needed.
Incessant rains in August and September affected the cultivated crop in 3.43 lakh hectares, affecting 1.5 lakh farmers. 130 crore has been released for them as ex-gratia.

Chief Minister Bommai directed to release Rs 79 crore as compensation to 79,000 farmers. The officers of Agriculture Departments at all levels were directed to involve themselves in conducting crop damage surveys.
Orders have been issued to start road repair work immediately and repair of irrigation tanks on war footing.
Meanwhile, teams of Home Guard, Civil Defense Force have been formed to carry out rescue and relief work. If needed, the officers have been instructed to increase their strength.
