Bengaluru: Government of Karnataka Weekend and night curfews are likely to be abolished but will continue with restrictions such as 50% entry in public places such as restaurants and movie halls.
With health experts backing the views of the public and elected representatives on the need to curb COVID in the state, it is now almost certain that the government will lift the weekend and night curfew.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Will hold a review meeting with ministers, health experts and others on Friday before making the announcement.
Some experts told TOI that they would recommend the government to lift both weekend and night curfews and continue with restrictions such as 50% entry in public places such as restaurants and movie halls. “We would suggest a complete ban on all political and religious events that involve large gatherings,” he said.
Experts also plan to suggest reviewing the restrictions every week instead of every fortnight given the shorter cycle of infection.
“We have prepared these guidelines to be presented in the review meeting. The Chief Minister will take the final decision,” said Dr MK Sudarshan, chairman of the Covid-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
The current restrictions are in effect till January 31.
“Several ministers, MLAs and MPs, cutting across party lines, have expressed their opinion on withdrawal of night and weekend curfew, while JD(S) leaders HD Kumaraswamy Schools have been asked to close. We will discuss all the approaches and arrive at a decision…,” Revenue Minister R Ashoka said.
