Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Council Chaluvadi Narayanaswamy criticised Mr. Shivakumar’s trip to Turkey on the eve of New Year when the whole State and the country was mourning the death of former prime minister Manmohan Singh.
Speaking to reporters on December 31, Mr. Narayanaswamy said it was not good on the part of the Deputy Chief Minister to visit abroad for new year celebrations as the whole country was in mourning.
On December 30, the BJP lashed out at Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for travelling to Vietnam shortly after the death of Manmohan Singh.
The issue started when BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya raised the matter in an X post. “While the country mourns Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s passing, Rahul Gandhi has flown to Vietnam to celebrate the New Year,” Malviya said.
The Congress rejected the allegations, stating they were an attempt to divert attention from the Centre’s handling of Singh’s funeral arrangements.
