Ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections, a survey conducted in the poll-bound state has cited unemployment as the biggest issue for voters. The survey, conducted by NDTV and Lokniti-CSDS, showed that around 28 per cent respondents said unemployment was the biggest issue for them.
According to NDTV, the survey was conducted from April 20-28 among 2,143 registered voters in 82 polling stations. The Karnataka assembly elections 2023 are scheduled to be held on May 10, while the counting of votes will take place on May 13. The election will be held to elect the 224-member assembly. This time it is expected that there will be a close contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress The Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) is playing the role of a potential kingmaker.
Coming back to the survey, it was found that around 28 per cent respondents considered unemployment as the biggest issue followed by poverty (25 per cent). Other issues like lack of development, price rise and education got seven per cent votes from the respondents.

However, only six per cent of the respondents found corruption to be a problem in the state. When the respondents were asked about the increase in corruption in the last five years, more than half i.e. 53 per cent answered yes, while 35 per cent said it remained the same and 11 per cent said it had gone down.
When respondents were asked whether prices in their areas had increased or decreased in the past five years, a majority, 67 per cent, said prices had increased, while 23 per cent said it had remained the same, while only 9 per cent said prices had increased. have decreased.

In 2008, the party suffered a major defeat, winning only 80 of the 224 assembly seats. But in 2013 it made a comeback and won a majority by winning 122 seats. In the last election, it won 80 seats and formed a coalition government with JD(S) which fell in 2019. Currently, it is the main opposition party in the state.
