A girl student of Malleshwaram Pre University College, who was adamant in appearing for the examination wearing a burqa, agreed to remove it after counseling by the principal and appeared for the examination here on Thursday.

Board exams for class 12 students have begun across the state.

Students have given their exams for Kannada and Arabic subjects.

The student remained adamant till the last moment that she should be allowed to take the exam wearing a hijab. Though the authorities refused her request, the student remained adamant. However, the principal on examination duty spoke to the girl student and explained the rules to her.

Sources in the Ministry of Education said that he also told her how important it was for her to take the exam, after which she agreed to remove it.

Education Minister BC Nagesh has said many times that students wearing hijab or any dress symbolizing religion will not be allowed to sit for the exam.
