The Karnataka government has provided another window of 15 days with 50% waiver of penalty on traffic violation cases. The discount will be applicable again from March 4, Saturday.
This follows the success of such relaxation windows, clearing a backlog of around 42 lakh traffic violation cases and clearing over ₹121 crore in Bengaluru alone during the nine-day window from February 3 to 11.
Rebate window was introduced on the advice of the Chairman, Karnataka Legal Services Authority to clear the backlog and received an overwhelming response. It wrote to the Bengaluru traffic police to appeal to the state government and the Karnataka Legal Services Authority to extend the rebate window. However, the window closed before a decision could be taken on February 11.
The Transport Department has issued an order on Friday, providing an additional relaxation of 15 days from March 4. The order states that this relaxation will be applicable only for cases booked before February 11 and not after.
Motorists can check the pending cases against them in the Bengaluru Traffic Police website and pay fines online on Karnataka One, digital payment portal Paytm and at all traffic police stations and traffic management centers in the city.
